Biggest change since my last round of comics shows: very few antique toy displays, replaced by anime figures. This is probably a response to what the market wants, but I miss my lenticulars, the mint-condition packages of Quisp and Quake, and Man from U.N.C.L.E. lunch boxes.

Some great name-dropping here, Mike! Good to know Mindy Newell and Len Strazewski are still both doing well. I haven't seen Mindy in ages, and miss her comics writing a lot. Same with Len, who used to be one of my "lunch buddies" back when I worked in the East Village and he lived there.

"Italian beef goo"?

When it comes to the real stuff (there's a lot of phoney Italian beef out there), I suspect only those who know the difference between Mister Beef and Vienna Beef would get the point. That's okay; we're a large cult. Large in more than one way, in fact.

“The comics ghetto!” is what my friend Frank Kane and I have been calling the comics section at Borders and B&N for years. Hey, it worked for Elvis.

I was in Chicago for Friday and half of Saturday and only saw 1 ComicsMix shirt. Perhaps the next iteration of the shirt could have the logo on the back also, or maybe they do and I am just blind.

Thankfully, the Adam Strange guy was physically fit. The Plastic Man I saw ...

I'd like to hear the story of the "Furries Explanation". Perhaps you could get 3 columns from it: 1 each from the perspective of the observer, the explainer, and the explainee. I just know Michael Davis had some strange comments, either out loud or in his head.

Yeah, I saw that Plastic Man guy. He reminded me of the Kurtzman/Heath Mad parody -- the Milky Way bar left on the radiator a bit too long.

As for the "furries explanation," I'll leave that to Adriane or Michael. And maybe for an X-rated premium service. But Michael did have some strange comments which he voiced out loud. He might have THOUGHT those comments were in his head...

I've been lobbying for logo-on-the back shirts for quite a time now...

I think the sad part of the 'comics ghetto' at SDCC was more the ghost town of the comcis dealers tables over the publishers booths.

Sadder still, a few of those few dealers told me they didn't do very well, at least as of Saturday night (Sundays often have a bit of a surge). One guy told me "This is no longer a great place to sell comics." His opinion; we'll see how many of them return next year.
