I decided to look up the actors' actual ages - Daniel Radcliffe is almost 18, Rupert Grint is almost 19, and Emma Watson is 17. Radcliffe was 12 when the first film came out.

The Potter books (and, therefore, the movies) are intended to each encompass a school year. It's not uncommon for adolescents of both genders to change a lot over the summer. Why shouldn't Harry and Ron?

I agree with Martha! Boys in their teen years go through an awkward phase from 12-20. So its to be expected.

Much like everyone is wondering what Rowling will do next now that Book 7 is done (I predict expanded books 1-3, a la The Stand), I wonder what these three actors will do once the Potter films are complete. Radcliffe has already started pulling at the reins (so to speak) with Eqqus, and Grint did wonderfully in the British film Driving Lessons (well worth seeking out), not to mention the film that is only now getting released here in the USA via DVD, Thunderpants. But for all her claims that she was leaving the series to try new things, I've not seen Emma Watson attached to anything yet. She's filling out nicely, and I think she could do well, but they all have a challenge coming. By the time they're done with the Potter films, they'll all be too old to make any more teenage films to appeal to the same audience. I'll be very curious to see what they do as their Sophomore projects (since you have to count this series as their first major role).

Just got back from the movie....and even though I live with awkward teens and stand by what I said earlier, Harry and Co. did age quite a bit since that last installment. They do need to huury to film the final two before Harry's 5 o'clock shadow can't be covered my make up. (Plus I want to finish/enjoy the rest of the Harry saga.)

Ummmm... Kai, what's your make up doing on Harry?

I am now listening to Stephen Fry reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Going at this slower rate I am picking up on more things than when I read it. Either I misinterpret something or Harry gets more than a five o'clock shadow while running around in this book.
