The Price is right
Mike Price is on the prowl for ComicMix
In the coming days you'll be hearing a lot more about Michael Price, whose writing will soon grace ComicMix in projects to be revealed later. Here's a brief resume to whet your appetite.
Mike co-authored the comprehensive "moving picture archaeology" Forgotten Horrors, which detailed studies of Depression-era horror movies and which has now been expanded into a continuing (arriving this spring is Forgotten Horrors 4: Dreams That Money Can Buy, covering a wealth of independent-studio chillers from 1947-1948). Mike's co-author on this series is novelist and radio broadcaster John Wooley, with whom he also wrote The Big Book of Biker Flicks. He also revised Spawn of Skull Island: The Making of King Kong along with Michael Turner, expanded from Michael's father George's original 1975 tome. And if that weren't enough, Price has another new movie-history book coming out this year -- Mantan the Funnyman: The Life & Times of Mantan Moreland, a biographical survey of a great comedian's arc from Black Vaudeville to Hollywood and back again. The man knows his obscure movies and actors!
But he knows his music too -- Price's Daynce of the Peckerwoods: The Badlands of Texas Music examines a career spent in the presence of such roots-music innovators as Bob Wills, T-Bone Walker, Tex Ritter, Big Joe Turner, Norman Petty, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. And he knows his graphic work as well -- Price's most recent comics work was the 2005 edition of The Ancient Southwest (TCU Press/Texas A&M Press Consortium), a restoration of a dinosaur-comics newspaper series by the late George E. Turner.
What's next for Price? In addition to the fifth and sixth volumes of the Forgotten Horrors series and his and Wooley's Forgotten Horrors column in Fangoria magazine, you'll find him right here in short order -- for free!
