Announcing the Mix March Madness 2014 Seeding Round!
UPDATE: Seeding round is over! Go vote in Round 1 now!
Yes, it’s that time of year again, the time where bracketology reigns supreme and the cry around the nation is “Win or Go Home!” Last year’s Mix March Madness Webcomics Tournament was incredibly popular, and so we’re doing it all over again– and raising money for the Hero Initiative in the process! Find out how…
We’re giving you a list of over 300 webcomics, and we want your votes . We’re taking the top 128 and putting them in a single elimination tournament where we whittle down the contestants down to one. The top 128 vote getters make it into the tournament, with the biggest getting top seeds. The voting ends Thursday, March 13 at 11:59 PM EDT, and brackets go up on Friday, March 14!
Take a look at the comics for yourself. You’ll see some old favorites, but we’re sure there are going to be great strips here that you’ve never encountered before…
And we’re letting you put your money where your mouth is and buy additional votes for your favorite strips, with your money going to charity. Simply click on the Donate button below, and during checkout, click on “Which comic are you donating for?” and tell us who you’re voting for. It’s 20¢ a vote for this round with a minimum of five votes purchased at a time, and all proceeds from paid votes will go to the Hero Initiative, an organization that helps comic book creators in need. At the close of the round, we’ll add the paid votes to the totals and announce the winners who move on to the brackets. (And yes, your donations are tax deductible.)
We raised almost $4000 for the Hero Initiative last year, and we’re hoping for $5000 this year. So what are you waiting for? Vote now! And remember: voting ends Thursday, March 13 at 11:59 PM EDT, and brackets go up on Friday, March 14!
Dresden Codak last updated in December, so shouldn’t it be ineligible? And Vattu (http://www.rice-boy.com/) was on the list last year, why’d it disappear?
Jen, you’re correct on both counts. We don’t know how we missed Vattu, but it’s been restored.
I hate to do this because I love Homestuck, but fair is fair and HS already has had its time on the limelight (and to be honest, Andrew Hussie can’t possibly give less of a darn about it), so: Homestuck shouldn’t be in this list, it’s been in hiatus for 6 months.
Until I clicked the link to the previous year’s contest, I didn’t even know there were rules. It looks like the author forgot to mention those, and didn’t bother checking the entries… The Adventures of Superhero Girl also hasn’t updated in quite a while, and I’m sure there’s some others. As a previous commenter stated, Dresden Codak was on the list which has since been removed.
Yep. Homestuck and Superhero Girl have been removed.
To be fair, I wouldn’t want to check each and every one of those, either. Took me long enough just to read the list for my 30-ish favorites!
I would like to suggest Poppy O’Possum! http://www.poppy-opossum.com/ It is a darling webcomic that started only nine months ago!
I can’t believe you’re still presenting Broodhollow as “Tintin in Innsmouth” as if it ever was its actual title.
For the record, that tag line got a reflex click from me, and though I was slightly disappointed that it was, in fact, not Tintin in Innsmouth, I’m totally hooked now.
I only clicked to check it out because you complained, so keep up the good work!
You’ve got “Tales from a Multiverse” twice – “Multiverse” and “Multi Universe”
er, *scenes* from a multiverse. Not ‘tales’.
Yeah. The correct one title is “Scenes from a Multiverse”. Please remove the other and add its votes to the correct one.
I’m gone to tell my little brother, that he should also pay a quick visit this blog on regular
basis to obtain updated from hottest information.
Might I suggest Guns of Shadow Valley?
Also, in no particular order (takes a deep breath): Tiziana, 164 days, Magellan, Harbormaster, Monsieur Charlatan, 3Minute Max, After Daylight, Title Unrelated, and The Bright Side?
May I suggest my own Decrypting Rita? It’s about a robot lady who’s dragged outside of reality by her ex-boyfriend.
Robot lady, eh? I’ll have to check it out.
Also:
O Human Star is about a robot guy, and the mystery surrounding his existence. One of the main characters is a robot girl.
But this description does not adequately convey the awesomeness of this comic…
It annoys me slightly that the link list and vote column don’t match up (in Fox, at least). I think it may be because of the vote boxes themselves – they take up extra space. If you make the vote column another quarter inch wider, I think it would help.
And fix the extra line feed after that title, as well.
Not to complain, but rather for the sake of accuracy, the webcomic you have listed as “Gravedigger Comics” is simply called “Gravedigger.”
“Gravedigger Comics” sounds like an anthology about people who work in cemeteries, while “Gravedigger” is actually a hardboiled crime comic.
Also, wondering if it’s too late to request that “Perils On Planet X” (http://www.perilsonplanetx.com/) be added to the ballot?
I am one of the creator of , a long-form adventure/sci-fi webcomic that has been updating weekly for nearly two years.
It’s high-quality, professional work and if there is still time to add titles to the tournament I would very much appreciate you guy considering it.
Thanks!
I think you’re late with the suggestion, pal. Suggestions were welcomed in the previous round. However, it is not all lost :) You just gained a new reader.
Thanks, Pylgrim!
I am glad you dug the Deep Dive Daredevils. Finding new readers, like you, is the whole reasonI hoped to be involved in this contest, so mission accomplished, I guess. :)
I’m hoping you guys will consider adding .
It’s hight-quality Sci-Fi/Adventure strip that has been updating weekly for nearly two years.
Thanks!
Please consider adding Opportunities. It’s a sci-fi action story about aliens and flamboyant killers. It’s about three and a half months old, and updates twice a week.
Thanks for your consideration.
Scenes from a Multiverse is listed twice (“Scenes from a Multiverse” “Scenes from a Multi Universe”)
It’s weird that you’ve listed John Allison’s comic under “Scary Go Round” rather than “Bad Machinery”
Many, many, many of these have not been updated since 2013. The list could use some pruning.
You should point out the ones you have noticed as we’ve been doing. I just noticed that the Dreamland Chronicles hasn’t updated since the last year, for example.
There are a few on the list that haven’t updated in a long time. Userfriendly has been doing rerun comics since 2009.
I’d like to mention No Scrying which is a murder mystery comic set in a fantasy world. (It is done by that dork who did Elf Only Inn back in the day)
Really surprised to see Wolf Wears Wool in the list. It was a good comic, but it hasn’t been updated with a new page since 2012.
Likewise, reMIND ended last year.
There are some really worthwhile comics I’d like to suggest. If they can’t be added to the list then hopefully people will at least check them out. They’ve all updated this year, too.
Camodad
Feel Afraid
14 Nights
A Ghost Story
Godsend
Help Us Great Warrior!
H&J
Judecca
The Less Than Epic Adventures of TJ and Amal
Monster’s Garden
O Human Star
Spera
SuperMutant Magic Academy
A few of these are NSFW at times, so maybe check the “About” sections if you’re worried.
Okay, Paranormal was a new one to me, so I checked it out, and it’s amazing. Definitely the best of the top twelve on that list. I say that as a fairly religious reader of most of them. And it’s thankfully out of Act 1 territory. Too many comics linger in setting up the stage for years and never actually get to the meat of the story they’re trying to tell (looking at you, Grrl Power).
Oots, Unsounded, Dr. McNinja, EGS, and Dinosaur comics all deserve a higher spot on the list, but whatever. I check this every year for interesting new reading material and I’ve never come away disappointed. Found Ava’s Demon and Namesake through here last year (although thinking back on that I’m pretty astounded at how little progress on the plot both have made over the past year), and Unsounded the year before that.
How do you vote? There are only links to the comics… I’m confused.
QuoteBot thinks you should wait for the next round.
WOW this is Awesome. Wish I knew about it earlier so I could enter my “Beast Legion’ for it. Does this take place monthly?
QuoteBot hopes your comic is better than your reading comprehension.
In comparison, Google’s biggest deal, Motorola Mobility, stood
at $12. And Apple adds a Twitter option under the
contact list. These catch phrases may not have found their way into
mainstream dictionary but there’s something called
an Urban Dictionary.
