Lost Heroes and Apple Teasing

ComicMix Radio's got the hot links!

It was a pretty hectic week at ComicMix Radio, and we ended up with a few stories that didn't make it in the broadcast, all of which have some cool links to check out:

We did manage to tell you that NBC.com is conducting another prop auction here, all still to raise money for the Mona Foundation. That's the group that supports global education initiatives and women's rights. Items up for auction include canvas print reproductions off the Heroes set from artist Tim Sale plus stuff from The Office and 30 Rock.

Days from now Lost returns to prime time TV. Ok, it's only for eight weeks but that's something. If you want to catch up on anything, ABC is making it easy with all three seasons posted here. And there is also a fun little site dedicated to Oceanic Air here

Cartoonist Dash Shaw has started a new online comic here that he describes ad a "romance about body and mind telepathy." BodyWorld is here and new episodes are posted on Tuesdays.

Red-Hot Hulk!

Mike's Amazing Hot Links

Those of you brave enough to come out from under your beds after seeing Cloverfield might even bravely venture over to the keyboard to run down a couple of hot links we gathered for you this week:

Top Cow Productions pulled in over  2.5 million votes at the official home of Pilot Season here, all in an effort to determine the publishing plans of the line in 2008. Pilot Season released five self-contained pilot issues starring established characters without a current series, all done by established creative teams in 2007. Each issue set up a potential series much like a television pilot episode. In case you still want to cast a vote or two, the polls remain open until tomorrow,

The Hero/AtomicComics.com Hulk #1 (Red) that features an exclusive cover by Ed McGuinness, limited to only 5000 copies, can be purchased online here. This special edition of Hulk #1 runs $8 and will also be offered at the Phoenix Cactus Comicon January 26-27, and at a special pre-con party at Atomic Comics where Hulk writer Jeph Loeb and artist Ed McGuinness will be signing on January 25th.

BOOM! Studios' Northwind #1 will receive a second printing and the publisher has also released a trailer for the series as well. See the trailer here and get a free download of Northwind #1 here. By the way, the actual second print will have a slightly altered cover to distinguish itself from the first printing and will be available on January 23rd.

You can see those previews of Wildstorm’s Supernatural: Rising Son, here. Did you know that The CW has four more Supernatural episodes to go before the WGA strikes brings the series to a halt?

It will be business-as-usual this week on ComicMix Radio as we dig into the new comics and DVDs, and then emerge long enough to continue our quest to find out what some of the insiders in comics are reading these days – it all starts in about 48 hours right here!

Broadcast blog's weekly wound-up

All the links from the stories you listen to...

Political bally ho and slightly skewed polls have driven us the web to be entertained this week. Let us share our links from our podcasts:

  • More fun than Bill O’Reily, we have Atom Films election-themed site of games, music videos and gags. Our favorite is the Kung-Fu game which invites players to choose their favorite candidate and take them into battle against a political enemy (that Hilary has a mean round house kick!)
  • Archie Comics' new expanded web site is live. There are expanded message areas for all their titles and most of their individual characters like That Wilkin Boy, Dilton, Captain Sprocket, and even Reggie. By the way, all posts will be read by a member of the Archie Comics staff prior to posting so that parents will be able to feel safe when their children are visiting the Archie Comics site.
  • Virgin Comics’ sold-out Dan Dare #1 can now be seen online as part of their Widescreen Digital Comic Book series. Segments are being posted every Monday and Wednesday. Meanwhile, Dan Dare #2 should still be in comic stores now and #3 is scheduled to street on January 23rd. Virgin Comics’ Dan Dare is written, of course, Garth Ennis which probably explains the sell-out.
  • Yoko Ono introduced the new John Lennon Educational Tour Bus at CES last week and you can see it, plus the tour schedule, at http://www.lennonbus.org/. The goal of the bus is to provide kids with a free hands-on opportunity to create and record their own music, produce videos and take digital photos, and will continue to offer tours and workshops. Throughout 2008 the bus, which features a recording studio and a range of great state-of-the-art equipment, will make stops at high schools, colleges and university campuses, and retailers.

Back on the Broadcast in a couple of days with our rundown of new comics & DVDs, then later on we continue our poll for “favorite hero”. This time we get a response not from a comic creator, but an actual character himself. Catch it on ComicMix Radio this week!

Fantastic Four – The Cave Painting?

Artists honor Stan Lee

Stan Lee on acid?

Well, not really, but it might be as close as you’ll ever come. Recently, Gallery 1988 and Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles hosted a tribute night to Stan with artists like Ruben Rude, Travis Lampe, Brandon Bird, Patrick Gannon, Misha, Angry Woebots and others paid through reinterpretations of some of his most famous characters. Proceeds from the night went to The Hero Initiative. You can see a gallery of the results here, but stay away from the brown M&Ms!

Tip of the ComicMix fedora to Allan Lamberti of 95.9-TheFox in Norwalk CT for digging this one up!

McFarlane, Sim, Kirkman, and Pigs? Oh my!

Hot links from ComicMixRadio

Less than a week into the New Year and our monitor screen is already covered in sticky notes. Stand by for Operation Clean Up!

If you are one of the fans who want a look at its eagerly anticipated Todd McFarlane Productions' The Simpsons Series 2 Action Figure Assortment then simply click here. As we told you, it isn't just a few jpegs. The site has complete details on the figures, including their specifications and a number of high-quality, full-color photographs of the finished pieces, as well as photos of the packaging. The site also includes QuickTime VR movies of the figures and handy list of available retailers.

Everybody seems to be weighing in on Dave Sim's new comic book project, Glamourpuss. You can see previews here. Keep in mind, it's about a light year and a half away from Cerebus, Dave describes it as a parody of the fashion industry plus an homage to the classic “soap opera” comics strips of the 50s, like On Stage. It's set to debut in April.
