You are right, Kate, your Mom rocks! So do Dick Giordano and Frank McLaughlin. This book is cool.
But ... In issue #2, at the bottom of page 9 (just 4 or 5 pages ago), the older monk in the glasses says, "We must prepare to defend ourselves...NOW!" So how have the monks prepared? Did they send for help? Did they stockpile weapons? Did they set traps? Did they post a guard? Did they even lock the door? It looks to me like they left the doors open wide enough to ride a battalion of horses into the monestary. Then the monks defend themselves by waving their empty hands and running around in circles. It's not much of a defense plan. The old monk in the glasses seems defiant, but not prepared.
Gur Kahn made the prediction that time would give the monks a false sense of security. And he was right. But how much time has passed? Has enough time passed for the monks to get this complacent? Days? Weeks? It has to be less than a year, the little infant isn't even a toddler yet. There's been enough time for the bandage to come Ta Moa's eye, but not long enough for the baby to get much bigger. The snow is off the ground. We've had a change in seasons. I'm guessing about four months have passed. The shift in time appears to have happened somewhere in the middle of page 12.
The last time the bandits failed to get the full medallion for Gur Khan, poor Li was decapitated. This time, we have similar results, but Gur Khan is able to take out his frustrations by just beheading a teddy bear. If I were one of Gur Khan's men, I would stock up on teddy bears!

apparently, only a few days have passed. weather in the mountains can be wintry, while spring-like in the valley.maybe it was a way for the writer to show the distance between the two locations.

Your explanation about little time passing and that the climate change is just a function of elevation is MUCH better than mine! But that still doesn't explain why the monks didn't prepare for attack: post a guard, lock the door or load a gun! For goodness sakes, the bandits just have swords. Somebody shoot at them! I hope we can see a scene where Ta Moa gets a hold of an AK-47 and commits a little mayhem. I doubt that will happen. It's not that kind of comic ... or is it?
