The body count is rising again!
I enjoyed the dramatic effect of Sable's friends talking about him in the foreground while Jon and Maggie run past in the background.
Speaking of foreground and background, in the next panel Jon and Maggie are still searching for Bashira, while the innocence of the unsuspecting crowd is shown by having a happy, romantic couple out for the holiday in the foreground. The fact that the couple is gay is very casual, subtle and coincidental, it probably will have no significance to the story. But, the prominence of of the couple in the panel is a bold statement that Jon Sable Freelance is NOT a homophobic comic book.
Maybe I'm reading too much into this. There is nothing that directly says, "This couple is gay!" It's all very casual, natural and subtle. It's a testament to Mike Grell's skill as an artist that I can read SO much into the body language and facial expressions of the "extras" in a scene.
