As a longtime JSF fan, let me say that this is already right up there with the best stories from the original run. I'm not some slavish fanboy, either...I thought BLOODTRAIL was pretty mediocre and had my doubts about ASHES. That the magic is back is pretty unbelivable. Comicmix is my first stop every Friday morning. Can't wait for the rest.

Sigh. I must be psychic. I wanted Maggie the Cat back, and I sure got my wish!!
Thank you Mr. Grell. ;-)

This new Sable series is the best comics Mike has done in years. I think the high plot-per-page quotient is working better than Bloodtrail, it's like Mike has gotten warmed up he's up to the standards of the best of the old Sable days.
Real happy to see Maggie back, though I may have to stop reading the comments to save myself from Tom's psychic spoilers! ;)
I would very much like to see the conclusion to the prematurely killed Maggie The Cat series soon. Please please please do at least part 3 of that story when Ashes is finished.
Thanks tonnes for reading!
Stephen
PS. Since I have you, there's one small negative comment. Mike is using even more double-page spreads than normal, so not only do we see only half the art at a time but the flow of reading gets quite disrupted. I'm an old pro at this but sometimes I honestly don't know which direction to go. If I had only one suggestion it would be to keep story flow on a single page at a time and reserve the double pages for splash art with very little dialog. Thanks for reading.

Be certain to use the double-page spread setting. I routinely use it, but I certainly use it for anything Mike Grell does. Or even anything Mike Grell reads...
I've mentioned this before, but what the heck: Mike's got a project with Mark Ryan coming up after Ashes of Eden, but eventually I wouldn't mind finishing off that Maggie story. We've even got unpublished art -- I'd leak some of it, but I'm holding out for the opportunity to do the full story.

I've made niggling comments in other issues of this story. But, I want to say that I am a fan of Mike Grell and Jon Sable, since the First Comics days. And, although I have my quibbles, this story is very good. Exciting. And the art is beautiful.
Yesterday I learned a new word, "MacGuffin." John Ostrander explained the concept in a ComicMix column from February of 2007.

As I read about what a "MacGuffin" is, I thought to myself, "I've heard that name before!" Then it struck me, "The Maguffin Diamond!" Very clever, Mr. Grell. The Maguffin Daimond is a perfect MacGuffin! This story is truly a dramatic definition of the word, "MacGuffin."
