There is an old country saying that became a part of African-American Christian culture, "There's a dead cat on the line." It's meaning shifted to approximate, "something stinks!", or similar to "Something's rotten in Denmark." Personally, I think this phrase comes from people being neighborly and checking your trot-line when you went by in your boat. A "daid cat" on the line meant that your neighbor had not checked his line is a pretty good while, so there might be something wrong and you'd better go by and see about him. I think it's meaning of "there's something shady at play," came from this origin.
Great work Michael and Mark! I love you both and I think it's a great piece. I look forward to many more installments.
