Martha Thomases: Soap

Martha Thomases

Martha Thomases brought more comics to the attention of more people than anyone else in the industry. Her work promoting The Death of Superman made an entire nation share in the tragedy of one of our most iconic American heroes. As a freelance journalist, she has been published in the Village Voice, High Times, Spy, the National Lampoon, Metropolitan Home, and more. For Marvel comics she created the series Dakota North. Martha worked as a researcher and assistant for the author Norman Mailer on several of his books, including the Pulitzer-Prize-winning Executioner's Song, On Women and Their Elegance, Ancient Evenings, and Harlot's Ghost.

I’ve also heard that Netflix will be making new episodes of Arrested Development for Netflix only. That was a soap opera of a sort.

I watched GENERAL HOSPITAL back in the day (when Alix was an itty-bitty baby), during the Luke and Laura period. I wasn’t so much in love with Luke and Laura, but Robert Scorpio and Holly–whoo-hoo!!!! They were one sexy couple!!!!! I still remember when Robert and Holly finally get together–in their private sauna!!!–the doorbell rings, and it’s Luke! (This was during the period when Laura was “dead” (Genie Francis took a break from the show–btw, did you know she’s married to Johnathan Frakes of STNG?) and Luke and Holly had gotten together and then Luke was believed killed, and then Robert and Holly fell for each other…

The greatest nighttime soap was, of course, DALLAS. Still find it hard to believe that Larry Hagman is gone. He was so full of life! Btw, I’m digging the new DALLAS on TNT, which comes back the end of this month. Hagman appears in the first five or seven episodes, and then they will deal with J.R.’s death.
