Oh, and when she's not doing all that, Emily is an active member of The National Press Club and holds down a 9-to-5 as a senior attorney for the federal government - although that may just be her superheroine cover identity.

I will beat you to the front of the queue to see Mockingbird on the big screen :-)

Actually, Guardians of the Galaxy is a separate film than Avengers 2. Guardians of the Galaxy has an entirely different cast, is based off of the comic of the same name, and is tentatively scheduled for a 2014 release – it will likely lead us into the Avengers sequel, which still does not have an official release date (likely 2015 or 2016).

Huh – okay, I must have gotten the wrong information from the several sites / IMDB listing it. If that’s the case, then that’s even one MORE movie for Marvel. Heh.

  3. The new Captain Marvel series makes it the perfect time for a movie about Carol Danvers – and has a much better costume, to boot!

    • rscott says:

Agreed – Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel or Captain Marvel) would be awesome. Avengers 2 could use some gender-diversity.. Janet Van Dyne (Wasp), Jennifer Walters (She-Hulk), and Wanda Maximoff (Scarlet Witch) would all make wonderful additions as well.

Sorry, but Captain/Ms Marvel would NOT make a good movie–UNLESS you plan on completely ignoring the character’s comic book history. Have you folks forgotten HOW she came to be? Um, let me remind you folks–an alien soldier by the name of Mar-Vell. For a full THIRTY-FIVE YEARS, Carol Danvers lingered in the shadow of Mar-Vell, largely operating as MS Marvel. The whole “Rogue steals powers then gets upgraded to Binary before losing the cosmic abilities” period can be safely ignored (sort of the same way the Hulk movies ignored the initial gray period) but trying to introduce Carol as Captain Marvel without acknowledging Mar-Vell’s very existence would be a major problem.

Ms. Marvel could be an awesome character on film…You simplify her story and make her a female Superman..and I would keep the sexier costume..because, well, it should be irrelevant…but a long-tressed female hero who looks great AND kicks total ass? It would be what DC has been trying to do for years with Wonder Woman

    • Emily W says:

Yeah, I’m not saying I’d want them to get rid of the costume – if they could manage to make it so that it wouldn’t seem ridiculous for her to be wearing such skimpy attire, then that’d be okay.

How about Warlock and/or Captain Marvell to tie into the Thanos storyline

  7. Nitedula says:

Hey, I’m here via Cleolinda’s Twitter, and I would like to make an almost completely unrelated comment.

As it happens, I’m a Latin teacher, and I just wanted to let you know that “servo lectio” doesn’t mean “keep reading” in the way you clearly meant it to mean. Google Translate strikes again!

In fact, “servo” means “I keep” in the sense of “I preserve/conserve” (both derivatives thereof, in fact), whereas “lectio” means “a reading”, like what an author does at a bookshop. So what you’ve got is something like “I, a reading, preserve”.

A more correct Latin version would be “perge legere”, which means “continue to read”. This is a command addressed to one person – if you want to address all your readers, it’s “pergite legere”. If you want to be a little less peremptory and make it “may you continue to read”, that’s “pergās/pergātis legere”. (The marks on the “A”s indicate long vowels, but are optional.)

A shorter version would be simply “lectitā” (plural “lectitāte”), which all by itself manages to mean “read often/with eagerness/repeatedly”. The polite version is “lectitēs/lectitētis” (“may you read often”).

Sorry for subjecting you to my pedantry, and feel free to ignore it. But if I don’t post this, I *will* wake up at 3am with a terrible case of “Somebody is WRONG on the Internet”-itis!

    • Emily W says:

Well, helllll, Google translate! (Or whatever it was I used.)

Thanks for letting me know. I’m going to elect to keep what I’ve got, since it’s already a thing. Also, I was basically parodying/riffing on Stan Lee’s “Excelsior!” and Terry Pratchett’s way of using “street” Latin in his novels, so I’m okay with it being off/bastardized. (In fact, I tooootally meant it to be, yup yup! That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!)

Plus, I love books; so I guess you could say I do preserve reading. Hah!

Okay, maybe I’m just lazy and don’t want to have to change it and explain things. :P But I’m glad to know the proper translation.

  8. Mindy Newell says:

Imho, Em, Marvel turns out better movies because they have their own studio–even though they are part of the Disney empire– whereas DC is just (a teensy) part of the Time-Warner conglomerate which seems to churn out movies in response to Marvel.

    • Emily W says:

Yeah, I do think that the fact that Marvel started up its own studio and the current era of Marvel movies grew from that foundation has a lot to do with why they are consistently strong and fairly cohesive.
