I actually had a comic book article all ready to go this week. Then I turned on the news and heard that McCain wants to cancel tonight’s presidential debate to lend his hand to solving “our” financial problem.
You must be kidding me.
My Manhattan home is mere blocks from Wall Street. Trust me, its still WORLDS away to me. There’s a famous bronze bull that stands tall there. I swear that bull would come to life and chase me away like’s it a German Sheppard and it’s 1964.
“Ours,” my ass. Nope, this is all yours, G.O.P.
Oh, McCain is willing to make up tonight’s debate by substituting it for the vice presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden, I guess so Palin will put down her shotgun and help save the country in this time of need.
Obama said he wants to have the debates stating that the county wants to hear from the two people who are running for President to see what they have to say on the subject. He also said a President will be called on to handle more than one thing at a time…duh.
I wonder why the G.O.P will not let reporters talk to Palin? Hey, Mr. Right, why the chuck won’t you let reporters talk to her? This woman will be half a heart beat (that’s right, half) from the most powerful job in the universe (except for mine) and she is being shielded like she’s radioactive.
I would not hire a baby sitter to sit with YOUR kids without talking to them. I can’t believe this. Why is there no OUTRAGE at this?? Remember McCain said “I can’t wait to unleash her on Washington!”

Sexist? That’s funny. John McCain in many written and PUBLISHED stories has been reportedly called his wife the “c” word (rhymes with bunt) in public at least once. Hey, don’t take my word for it. Google that bad boy.
Wow, that is hardcore. The only reason McCain’s still around is his wife is not a black woman. If he thinks five years, as a POW is rough try using that word on a sister.
So, the country is about to enter the Great Depression 2, the world hates us, we are in two wars and trying our best to get into one with Russia, gas prices are crazy and still the G.O.P would have you think that they are the party to get us out of all this mess.
The mess THEY started.
Now they don’t even want to debate because NOW is the time to devote all our energy to solving the financial problems of the country.
No, the time to do that was a long time ago. Instead we invaded a country that did not attack us. I WANT to hear what the candidates for President have to say NOW. This is the PERFECT time when the country is in turmoil to do so. Shit, this is the time to see leadership under fire, not when you are counting your cars or homes.
NOW is the time.
Is there ANYONE out there that does not think that McCain is buying time for Palin so she can cram for her V.P. debate exam?
I mean, come on.
All this is keeping us from the most important announcement in the history of mankind…

Congress didn't try to make a plan like that. Paulson did. The 3-page proposal dictated these things. They were challenged by the Congress.

Gee, it would be nice if on a comic book forum a little bit of the commentary could actually have something to do with comic books. If we want to read lefty whinging or mindless recycling of the Obama campaign's talking points, there are plenty of other places to find it.
We're talking fantasy here, so exactly how this discussion NOT pertain to the world of Comic books? Just because no one has stated that Olly Queen or Lex Luthor shouldn't be the one to bail out Wallstreet instead of the taxpayers, doesn't mean we expect what we're saying will come to pass..?Awwww, did we inject too much reality into your widdle comic book world?
And there are plenty of discussions about comics here. By all means, feel free to participate in those conversations that interest you, and ignore the ones that don't.

Yeah, it's so annoying when takes a column where they're supposed to share their opinion to, you know, share their opinion.Michael Davis, John Ostrander, Dennis O'Neil, everyone here who writes a column can say whatever they want. It's been that way since this site was set-up. And if what's on their mind is something other than whether or not Spider-Man remembers being married, then that's what they're gonna write about. It's his own column, why would he need to look for some other place where his opinions would be welcome? And just because someone agrees with a viewpoint that you don't agree with or like, that doesn't make them a mindless recycle bin, he just has a different opinion. It would've been a lot more respectful to actual bring up why you feel differently rather than dismissing Michael as stupid (especially after he just informed us of his mystical bronze bull).
Comic books don't exist in a vacuum. This election has stirred something fierce in everybody. This is what rocks about comic mix… You get a MIX of comic book news and opinion alongside the opinion piece. So, tough nuts Petey… if you want less politics in your mix, DON'T READ THE ARTICLE. :)
My sentiments exactly, Marc. Of course, my sentiments aren't the only ones that count towards establishing ComicMix policy, but you've got my philosophy nailed down perfectly. We run about, I dunno, 250 stories a month here covering all aspects of the popular culture world as it rotates around the comics enthusiast. That includes the real world. But if somebody doesn't want to read about that real world, I understand. It's no different from those people who don't want to read about the Star Wars cartoon movie or how Cheap Trick ripped off the DC go-go checks for their set and guitar design. There's plenty here on all fronts.Personally, I'd like to see a bit more political writing — covering views from the right. Thus far, nobody's stepped up to the plate. And with the election a few weeks away (I'm sure our political concerns will be lessened after the election; current events, maybe not so much), I suspect there will be less interest on the part of our columnists and commentators.MG @ the Baltimore Comic-Con
Pete,I'm assuming you are a new reader (or new enough not to have from been here from the start of my weekly rants) I made it crystal clear when I started that this was a popular culture column. My entire career in comics I have made it a point to try and get us more respect in the mainstream. To that end, this is an attempt to make sure that my one small voice (oh, ONE SMALL VOICE what a great name for a column!!) oh wait I think that's the name of a column used by fictional character in one of Ayn Rand's books. Darn-I brought up something that has nothing to do with comics. This may not be the time to bring up Objectivism, or anything else which does not deal with comics…or IS it? My position is that EVERYTHING at Comicmix has to do with comics. EVERYTHING. As an industry who's business plan is cannibalizing each other (Marvel is after the same audience as DC etc, etc) we should-no-WE MUST have a world view if we are going to viewed by the world as anything other than kid stuff and reach new readers.I spent an entire month talking about comics with my Milestone series and as much as I enjoyed that trip down memory lane that series was as much about business as it was about comics. My column last week was as much about time management as it was about my projects. My political views are just as much about my comics career as any other subject in this forum. As a creator what I create is shaped by my life. Can you imagine Watchmen or V for Vendetta or ANY Alan Moore project without his political views being in tow? I'm not on Alan's level by any means but you can bet when he's coming up with the next great story it would have been fueled by his distinctive point of view. For my money (which thanks to Wall Street is considerably less) the best stories are those which are written with passion and knowledge. Knowledge that comes from a WORLD view. As I said my view is that everything written at comicmix relates to the comics business in some way. Case in point-I write about Palin who is on RECORD as wanting to remove certain books from libraries. Comics are books. What's next-she wants to remove some of those? Removing ANY book in this country is not only an American issue it's an absolute comic book issue. It's not a huge leap to connect the two. Look-Comicmix does not talk down to it's readers. We ARE part of the mainstream. We are the part that bucks the system. I DO CARE about Marvel's big event this summer and all things (no most things) comics. I care and when something jumps out and knocks me out to a point I feel I should write about it I will. But you know what? EVERYBODY writes about that. So when I do write about some such event you can be sure it will have my distinct point of view and be well worth (I hope) reading.Lastly-this is NOT a comic book forum. It's a media forum and comics are in that mix. Hence the name comicMIX. Now there are plenty of other comics only sites where you can get your POW! ZAP! fix but I hope you stay here. Unlike some on the Right we care what others have to say. P.S. Mr. Gold-Above is my column for next week. I believe the now appropriate response to Pete the poster would be "owned! – Property of the M.O.T.U."If I wanted to read puff pieces with no substance, I'd go to another site. However, I enjoy the depth within the articles on here. I may get berated for this, but there's more to life than just comics. If the article ties into comics, great. An article about censorship, the media, etc. is far more engaging and worth the effort to read than "Super Secret Infinite Crisis Wars, Part IV is the biggest event of the year!".

Why is the McCain campaign hiding Palin?Among other reasons, because although recently she denied ever having met the leader of any other countries at all, it was recently revealed that just last year she spent a week as governor of Alaska meeting with the president of Iceland, discussing geothermal energy. Last I checked, Iceland was a whole other country, with its own national anthem and everything! (I'm not sure, but I think the Icelandic national anthem is either "I'm Freezing My Balls Off Here", or "Lutefisk? Are You Freaking Kidding Me?")That's right – she can't even get her *inexperience* right!

is it too late to comment on Palin here? This is unrelated, but after some googling I ascertained the following: Sarah Palin did not give birth to baby Trig. As a mother who recently had her fourth child: the more babies you have, the more hippo-like you become with each successive pregnancy. There is a photo online of Palin during her first pregnancy. She is an attractive woman, but she is HUGE. And that was her first pregnancy. Women who balloon during pregnancy balloon for EVERY pregnancy, and the older/more babies you have, the more you balloon. Fast-forward to the RNC…a 44 year old woman four months after her fifth baby? She would have taken up half the stage.Apparently Bristol Palin was absent from school with "mono" for the last five months of "her mother's" pregnancy. What is up? Did her daughter have a downs baby at 16? Then another pregnancy right after?
