Very nice and substantive column, Michael. This would make a good pairing with Colleen Doran's series on freelancers and finances that she's been running on her blog. It's always hard to know when to hold back on gently pressing a company for payment owed. Sometimes contracts don't help — I once co-wrote three scripts under contract, never saw a cent, and was later told by the company's president that "contracts were made to be broken." Goodwill does go a long way, though, as well as needing to take into account things like a company's own cash flow situation. I've been known to write "on spec" (I know that's probably not the right term but you know what I mean) without a contract in anticipation that a company whose employees I know and trust will eventually pay me. And on a goodwill basis I think that's the way to go (besides which, the experience never hurts in terms of adding to one's resume).

Scion is connected to the Pioneer Club. And he can't be Wendel. He's too spry to be either Wendel or Thayer, at least that's my take. Now, if Octavius can't smell that Lone Justice is being set up, he should turn in his Hero License. The thing is, Gottmogen and Hilda should realize that Lone Justice is getting set up too! Maybe even Agnus Solstice. This might bring out Lone Justice's secret supporters as well as his enemies. As usual, I'm really enjoying "Lone Justice: Crash!" I just wish there were more folks commenting besides me. Oh well. Great work. Fun read. Looking forward to Monday.

Thanks for the comment Russ. And I would love to see a conversation going here in the comments. But I know this summer has been a scheduling nightmare for me (I missed commenting a few weeks there myself.) I'm only now getting back to the usual weekly cycle. Blame it all on conventions!
